As women, our main limiting thoughts are usually related to our appearance and self-esteem. That’s why I decided to come up with this blog post about affirmations for body positivity. But before talking about these, let’s talk about what exactly positive affirmations are.
Positive affirmations are more than just feel-good phrases and expressions. In a nutshell, positive affirmations are statements that are said and often repeated in order to encourage and assist the person saying them.
Simply put, positive affirmation is our brain’s language.
Positive affirmations can be found in a variety of books and websites. You may see a long list, such as “100 positive affirmations,” but be cautious before repeating these affirmations to yourself in front of the mirror.
Positive affirmations are made up of specific sub-parts because they are the language of the brain.
Affirmations are made up of three components
If you find a positive affirmation on the Internet or in a book that lacks the following three components, your brain will not correctly register that thought. It turns out that our brains’ language requirements are quite strict and specific.
Affirmations that are positive are always in the present tense
Move on if you come across a positive affirmation that says, “I’m GOING to do this,” “I USED to do this,” or “One day I MIGHT do this.” Only sentences in the present tense are registered by our brains.
Positive affirmations only use positive words
If you see a positive affirmation that includes the words “don’t,” “can’t,” or “won’t,” don’t repeat it. It takes more effort on your part to change a negative thought to a positive one.
Positive affirmations are expressed in the form of facts and truth
Affirmations containing the words “could” and “should” are less powerful than statements containing the words “I am” and “I will”.
How do positive body affirmations work?
Some thoughts are so deeply ingrained simply because we have repeated them in our brains millions of times that changing them appears impossible, as your brain fights to maintain the old pattern at all costs.
It dislikes any changes you make to its “autopilot” because it requires a lot of energy, and nothing is more important to the brain than saving energy.
But you don’t want to be trapped by these limiting thoughts, do you?
So, how do we change our thoughts so that the new and improved one replaces the old and worn-out one? Affirmations, such as these positive body image affirmations that I will share with you soon, come in handy here.
In the same way that your brain has stored your thoughts on autopilot, you can store new thoughts there as well, repeating them until they truly stick.
Affirmations, like physical exercise, train the brain, and the more and more frequently you practice them, the faster and bigger the change will be!
Let’s now look at how the brain communicates. It does this in a very specific way, and understanding this can significantly increase the effectiveness and power of your positive affirmations.
Your brain is a complex and intricate information network that constantly sends and receives thoughts and instructions at light speed. Every simple movement you make is a highly complex communication between all of your brain cells, which are known as neurons.
Because your brain has so much information to process every second, it interprets everything you think and say literally. When you understand how directly this communication works, you can see how it affects your emotions, behavior, and even your physical well-being.
Your brain doesn’t communicate in the future or in the past form. Everything that happens to your brain occurs in the present moment. When you have a thought, your brain processes the information letter by letter and prepares you for the action that should immediately follow.
For example, if you tell yourself, “I’m going to have a great time with my partner this weekend,” your brain hears “great time” and goes into overdrive to make your date perfect.
This effect is amplified when you begin to worry about something that might happen in the future. Have you ever wondered why you get such strong physical reactions to things that aren’t true?
Think about watching a horror film. Your heart rate may increase, and you may begin to sweat and feel dizzy.
This occurs because your brain doesn’t distinguish between what you are feeling now and what you think might happen in the future.
Your brain literally reacts to your thoughts in the present moment and prepares you for a perceived threat.
As a result, it’s critical that positive affirmations are in the present tense.
The affirmation, “I’m doing well in my job interview,” indicates that your success is now, rather than in the future. “I’m an excellent interviewee. I’m an excellent employee,” reinforces neutral associations, making you feel confident, decisive, and prepared for your interview.

The key to success is repetition
To understand how positive affirmations work and why they are a great tool for creating the life you want, you must first understand why they must be repeated.
When you first start using them, you may feel that repeating positive affirmations is a waste of time. Why is it important to repeat positive, in-the-moment statements several times a day if your brain responds to them?
Habits are formed in your brain.
Brain processes are designed to assist you in succeeding. Every time you think, feel, or do something, your brain strengthens its connections in order to function properly. It enables you to complete tasks with less effort and greater focus.
Think about riding a bicycle. It may seem strange at first, but once you learn it and practice it, it will become second nature to you. As a result, every time you perform these actions or think these thoughts, your brain reinforces these connections.
